SCOPE is a vibrant and practical environmental education Programme of the Zimbabwe Institute of permaculture (ZIP) registered as a welfare organization (W.O. 12/92). SCOPE’s origins are in assisting schools to redesign and rationalize land use for sustainable resource use.
SCOPE’s overall mandate is to encourage generations of systems thinkers by bringing the ethics and principles of permaculture design/regenerative systems into the school classroom to foster a future shaped by sustainable and resilient practices.
SCOPE’s work is about: land care, creating a favorable learning environment in schools, connecting schools to their communities and the knowledge and resources that lie therein.
In the last few years, SCOPE has been answering the need to demonstrate lighthouses, examples of ecological stability, social equity and economic viability with growing focus on food production in harmony with the planet earth targeting over 200 schools in rural and urban Zimbabwe, shifting towards building climate resilient communities. transforming bare landscapes into lush and edible landscapes.
We envision green schools and higher learning institutions that serve as learning and demonstration centres in building a citizenry that is eco-conscious.
We aim to increase the level of environmental knowledge and stewardship among all sectors of the community including the children, youths, policy makers and the business world to achieve sustainable development goals through an integrated approach.
SCOPE's value system is a moral compass that guides all our work, decisions and relationships pursued and maintained. At the very core of our value system is the value we place on young people as important influencers of the present and custodians of the future
